Pee Nai, or Thai flute, is one of the instruments of the Piphat orchestra, Thai’s classical wind and percussion instruments ensemble. This flute is decorated with the initial mother-of-pearl letter of Asst. Prof. Dr. Patorn Srikranon, the assistant professor at the Music Department, Faculty of Humanities, Kasetsart University. He has been a member of the Au Sau Friday Band, a personal band of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great, for over 30 years. With his talented skills and abilities in both Thai and Western music, Mr. Chakkrit Suksawat has designed this flute with some patterns in the contemporary style. The pattern consists of classical Thai patterns and vines patterns, one of the standard patterns found in Western art. The top part of the oboe is decorated with the initials of Dr. Patorn, surrounded by the olive vines pattern that indicates prosperity. The middle part of the oboe is decorated with Thai patterns such as Prajamyam, Dok Rak, and Ta Kai harmoniously to the finger holes of the flute. The bottom part is decorated with the Bua Bang Lane pattern, which is the signature pattern of Mr. Chakkrit.
